Recently, Alaina Medicine Bull traveled to the great Northern Plains Indian Art Market in Sioux Falls, South Dakota as a visiting artist.  Alaina entered the juried art show and won second place in the Traditional Painting category.  The painting she entered is titled, "Cheyenne Warpaint" it is based on Ledger Art story telling.  This form of art was used by the ancestors in relating a story using drawings or paintings.  Alaina has chosen to design her works using natural paints and acrylics on buckskin hides; other artists have used actual ledger forms or canvas to portray their ledger art.

Alaina has always drawn or painted, however, she never really took it serious until about one year ago when a wonderful friend Rhonda Greenberg encouraged her to paint wall hangings.  In the past, Alaina has designed small paintings on buckskin adorning the backs of jean jacket with fringes on the arms.  So indeed, painting on bigger wall hangings has opened up a new world of beautiful art for Alaina.

Alaina entered four paintings into the art show, and two were purchased by a fine arts gallery; the Northland's Gallery from downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The owners of this gallery were so pleased to own two of Alaina's works and promised to promote her art to their European and Japanese clients.

Alaina has entered the Pueblo Grande Museum Indian Market to be held in Phoenix, Arizona in December.  However, an upcoming local arts and crafts show on November 10th and 11th, 2006 sponsored by the Schoolhouse History and Art Center (SHAC) in Colstrip, Montana will feature Alaina as one of the artisans.

Art therapy has brought a whole new meaning for this Cheyenne lady, who at this writing is the only Cheyenne woman doing Ledger Art painting as an art form, Alaina is raising her two beautiful grandchildren Keoni and Kahelelani Kalama and works as the Purchasing Agent for the Northern Cheyenne Finance Department, she can be reached at onebuffalospirit@yahoo.com for orders and requests.
